Packing mechanism for subterranean wells
This patent describes a packing tool for a subterranean well conduit, it comprises: a mandrel insertable in the well conduit; means on the top end of the mandrel for connection to a string extending to the well surface; a tubular body assemblage surrounding the mandrel; control dog and slot means connecting the tubular body assemblage to the mandrel for run-in, relocation and removal purposes; a collet having a ring portion surrounding a medial portion of the mandrel; thread means on the bore surface of the tubular body assemblage; drag block means on the tubular body assemblage; lower slip means on the tubular body assemblage settable by upward movement of the collet ring portion; further upward movement of the mandrel after setting the lower slip means moving the annular recess past the latching heads; a tubular packing element surrounding the upper portion of the tubular body assemblage; upper anchor means' a tubular upper cone; the upper end of the tubular upper cone being abuttable with the lower end of the packing element; the lower end of the tubular upper cone defining conical ramps for slips; a tubular upper slip holder cone; upper slips mounted on the upper slip holder in peripherally spaced relation; at least one pin radially traversing the first slot and having its outer end engagable with the upper cone holder and its inner end disposed adjacent the mandrel; and abutment means on the mandrel.
