An analysis of metal distribution in the bottom sediments of the Katun` river and its tributaries is made for the area of planned reservoirs, occupying an intermediate position in respect to the mercury-bearing zones. Emphasis in this analysis is placed upon mercury. It is assumed that the planned reservoirs with a substantial solid discharge will be settling basins for loose material and will sharply decrease the concentration of mercury and other heavy metals in the bottom sediments of the Ob`River downstream of the reservoirs.
