The graphical user interface (GUI) system forms the very core of any supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. The efficiency of a GUI system can easily determine the productivity of operations of any energy management system (EMS). This article enumerates the major parameters that should be evaluated at the very beginning of a SCADA/EMS project to choose the most efficient GUI product. Though every customer's needs are different, any GUI system still should have the following chief characteristics: Open system approach, Seamless interface features, Ease of user operation, Acceptability by the operators.
