Novel electrostatic probe technique for measuring the ion density in a flame

Journal Article · · Combust. Flame; (United States)

A novel technique for measuring the ion density in a flame is described. The method is based on the thick sheath convection model of ion collection by a very thin cylindrical electrostatic probe. The advantage of the new technique is that it requires no specific knowledge of the ions in the flame. The experiment is performed in a well behaved premixed propane flame seeded with NaOH in order that the present results could be compared with previous well understood theories and experiments.
