Should the U.S. crude oil export ban be lifted Will U.S. energy policy hold a hard line toward free market economic efficiency or will it maintain the status quo in favor of preserving national energy security The question is asked because economists are finding benefits that could ensue to U.S. producers and the U.S economy if Alaskan oil were to be marketed internationally. This paper reports the results of two studies showing the economic benefits of marketing Alaskan crude, including increased U.S. production, increased prices for California crude, and decreased trade imbalance with Japan.
