New kinds of competition are transforming the face of the electric power industry, and utilities are assessing whether their current corporate organization and structure will be a good fit. They are reexamining the way they do business and altering their organizations in ways they think best suit the realities of the competitive marketplace. It's called restructuring, something that companies in deregulated industries (such as telecommunications, airlines, financial services, health care, and natural gas) have struggled with as they've tried to position themselves in new markets. But how do electric utilities view it What have they done about it What should they do This article examines those issues.
