  1. Denkmann Thermal Storage, Inc., Chicago, IL (United States)
This report presents test data on a new refrigerant-based cool storage concept currently under development by Lennox Industries, Inc. This concept, targeted toward residential and small commercial sectors, shows considerable promise for both new construction and retrofit applications. Tests were performed during the summers of 1990--1991 at the Knox County Rural Electric Membership Corporation office building in Vincennes, Indiana. Test data were uploaded to a host computer in the Chicago office of Denkmann Thermal Storage, Ltd. Retrofit funding was provided by the Rural Electric Research (RER) program of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, and Knox County Rural Electric Membership Corporation. Funding for the monitoring was provided by EPRI. Each test result is discussed, followed by conclusions drawn from the highly successful test results. Recommendations for further research in liquid overfeed technology, cooling coil design, and piping design having two-phase flow regimes are presented. Data logger output files, DBASE and EXCEL 3 files, and files generated within CHART/PC, a psychometric data analysis program, are available from either the EPRI project manager or the contractor upon request.
