In recent years, interest in the technology of gas cleaning at high temperatures has grown, driven in part by environmental legislation but also by demands for increases in process efficiency and intensity--notably for power generation and waste incineration. Some techniques for high temperature gas cleaning have now reached practical exploitation, and industrial applications are described by some of the contributors to this volume. The book covers inertial separators, electrostatic precipitators, filters, and chemical separations for the removal of fly ash, sulfur compounds, and alkali metals from gases. Most of the process gases are concerned with coal conversion processes: fluidized-bed combustion, coal gasification, flue gas cleaning, etc.
