This patent describes a method of restoring seismic data to a null trace included as part of a series of seismic traces. It comprises: a single non-iterative procedure for a transform which band limits acquired data, by producing a data localizing transform representation of the series of seismic traces; applying a mute capable of passing only the localized data portion of the localized data transform space corresponding to the transformed series of seismic traces; producing a second series of seismic traces from the muted transform. The second series of seismic traces including a partial restoration of the null trace; substituting the partially restored trace for the null trace in the first series of seismic traces; and producing a seismic section which includes a full restoration of the null trace from the substituted series of seismic traces.
