Deep Inelastic Scattering in quark models

Book ·
OSTI ID:7016909
In this thesis, we calculate Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) structure functions using low energy phenomenological models for nucleon structure. The models are used to calculate the twist two pieces of nonsinglet quark distribution functions at low Q{sup 2} {approx} .5GeV{sup 2}, and then are evolved to higher Q{sup 2} using QCD perturbation theory to next to leading order. For spin independent DIS, we find that a Peierls-Yoccoz projected version of the soliton bag model yields valence quark distributions that agree with the experimental data for x > .25 g{sub 1}{sup P}(x) - g{sub 1}{sup N}(x) is also calculated, although no data exist at present.
