The asymmetry parameter and branching ratio of Sigma plus radiative decay

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:7015312
The authors have measured the asymmetry parameter and branching ratio of the [Sigma][sup +] radiative decay. This high statistics experiment (FNAL 761) was performed in the Proton Center charged hyperon beam at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. The authors find for the asymmetry parameter [minus]0.720 [+-] 0.086 [+-] 0.045 where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is based on a sample of 34754 [+-] 212 events. They find a preliminary value for the branching ratio Br([Sigma][sup +] [yields] p[gamma])/Br([Sigma][sup +] [yields] p[pi][sup 0]) = (2.14 [+-] 0.07 [+-] 0.11) [times] 10[sup [minus]3] where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is based on a sample of 31040 [+-] 650 events. Both results are in agreement with previous low statistics measurements.
