In current scenarios of global climate change, increased average temperatures are accompanied by changes in the magnitude and distribution of key hydrologic variables, including precipitation and runoff. These changes, particularly if compounded by demographic and economic shifts could have profound impacts on regional water resource systems. A case study is presented for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) reservoir system, which is a large, comprehensively managed, multi-purposed systems. The TVA system includes 42 major dams and reservoirs in a 41,000 square-mile area within seven Southeastern states. 19 refs., 2 figs.
