This patent describes an x-ray tube anode comprised of a body having a surface region for being impinged by electrons to produce x-radiation and a coating distinct from the region for enhancing the thermal emittance of the body, the coating composed of a metal oxide coating, it comprises: ZrO[sub 2] present in an amount of about 8% to 20% by weight and Al[sub 2]O[sub 3] together with TiO[sub 2] present in an amount of about 92% to 80% by weight with the Al[sub 2]O[sub 3] being present with respect to the TiO[sub 2] in a ratio in the range of about 4 to 1.
