Atomic absorption determination of iron in refractory compounds of silicon, boron, aluminum, and titanium

Journal Article · · Ind. Lab. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:7009195
This paper reports the atomic absorption determination of 0.01-5 wt.% iron in refractory SiC, Si/sub 3/Ni/sub 4/, B/sub 4/C, BN, AlN, TiC, TiCN, TiN, and TiC-TiB/sub 2/, obtained by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The samples, depending on type, were broken down either by fusion with potassium hydroxide or by acid dissolution. The solutions were then analyzed on an AAS-1 atomic absorption spectrometer and the iron content determined from a calibration curve.
