The superconducting transition temperatures in Bi{sub 2}Ca{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Ln{sub {ital x}}Sr{sub 2}Cu{sub 2}O{sub 8+{delta}}, TlCa{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Ln{sub {ital x}}Sr{sub 2}Cu{sub 2}O{sub 6+{delta}}, and Tl{sub 0.8}Ca{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Ln{sub {ital x}}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 23}O{sub 6+{delta}} (Ln=Y or rare earth) vary with composition and show a maximum at a specific value of {ital x} or {delta}. This observation suggests that an optimal carrier concentration is required to attain maximum {ital T}{sub {ital c}} in such cuprates which seem to be two-band systems.
