Amino sulfonic acid derivatives of carboxylic acid-containing interpolymers, and fuels, lubricants and aqueous systems containing said derivatives

This patent describes an additive concentrate for preparing lubricants or normally liquid hydrocarbon fuel compositions comprising a substantially inert, normally liquid organic diluent. The diluent is selected from the group consisting essentially of naphtha, benzene, toluene, xylene, mineral oil. The compositions also comprise normally liquid fuels and from about 20 to about 90% by weight of an N-acylated amino hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid or acid derivative composition characterized by the presence within the structure of at least one acyl, acylimidoyl or acyloxy group attached to the amino nitrogen. The groups are derived from the carboxylic acid groups contained in an interpolymer of (i) at least one olefin monomer and (ii) at least one alpha, beta-unsaturated acid or derivative thereof. A lubricant or normally liquid hydrocarbon fuel composition is described containing a major amount of a lubricating oil or normally liquid hydrocarbon fuel and an amount up to about 30% by weight of lubricant or 1 to 50,000 parts by weight per million parts by weight of fuel of at least one N-acylated amino hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid or acid derivative composition. The composition is characterized by the presence within the structure of at least one acyl, acylimidoyl or acyloxy group attached to the amino nitrogen. The groups are derived from the carboxylic acid groups contained in an interpolymer of (i) at least one olefin monomer and (ii) at least one alpha, beta-unsaturated acid or derivative thereof.
