The transient behavior of the standby diesel-generator units and the Engineered Safeguard loads at an operating nuclear power generating station was simulated using the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). This paper discusses the standby diesel-generator units and the engineered safeguard load model development and the validation and verification of the applicable EMTP modules. The paper also presents the simulation results illustrating the predicted transient deviation in the generator voltage and frequency together with the voltage deviations within the Engineered Safeguard Features (ESF) distribution system.
