In November of 1988, nineteen major oil/chemical companies joined together to support a 2-year study at the University of Southwestern Louisiana which proposed to examine various tests methods for evaluation of oilfield inhibitors. A variety of gravimetric and electrochemical test methods was used to evaluate the relative effectiveness of 23 pipeline and 32 downhole corrosion inhibitors. Tests were divided into low, medium, and high velocity types. Inhibitors were also checked for emulsion and pitting tendency and film persistency so that an overall rating could be made.
