Spectrophotometric determination of uranium (VI) with 2,2' (2,6-pyridinediyl bis (methylidyne nitrilo) phenol

Journal Article · · Anal. Lett.; (United States)
A spectrophotometric method for the determination of microgram amounts of Uranium (VI) is described. The uranium(VI) is extracted with chloroform from aqueous solution at pH 3.2 and forms a complex (1:1 metal to ligand) with 2,2'- (2,6-(pyridinediyl bis (methylidyne nitrilo)) phenol. The red color developed is measured at 500 nm and the molar absorptivity is 1.19 x 10/sup 4/ L mol/sup -1/ cm/sup -1/. The effect of various foreign ions is reported.
