Title: Synthesis and crystal structure of a binuclear ruthenium compound containing [Ru[sub 2]([mu]-S[sub 5])([mu]-S[sub 2]CNMe[sub 2])(S[sub 2]CNMe[sub 2])(CO)[sub 2](PPh[sub 3])[sub 2]] and [Ru[sub 2]([mu]-S[sub 6])([mu]-S[sub 2]CNMe[sub 2])(S[sub 2]CNMe[sub 2])(CO)[sub 2](PPh[sub 3])[sub 2]]: The first ruthenium compounds with bridging S[sub 5] and S[sub 6] ligands

Several sulfur-bridged binuclear ruthenium compounds have recently been reported and the structures, the chemical properties and the redox potentials have been discussed. In an attempt to widen the variety of sulfur-bridged multiruthenium compounds with coordinated CO and PPh[sub 3] (which seem essential to such substitution reactions), the authors obtained two binuclear ruthenium compounds having a S[sub 5] or a S[sub 6] bridging ligand. The two compounds exist in a crystal lattice which is randomly disordered, and these are the first examples in which S[sub 5][sup 2[minus]] and S[sub 6][sup 2[minus]] ligands bridge ruthenium atoms.
