The present volume on structure and property relationships for interfaces encompasses interfaces in metals, ordered alloys, as well as oxides and ceramics, and the mechanical properties of interfaces, migration and transformation, and the electrical properties of such interfaces. Specific issues addressed include interface control in metals, grain-boundary structure in zinc, the characterization of grain boundaries in ordered Ni3Al, interfacial chemistry in ceramic composites, electromigration in thin films, and the electrical properties of grain boundaries. Also addressed are diffusion-induced grain-boundary migration in ceramics, intergranular fracture and microalloying effects in ordered intermetallics, and the microstructural origins of the critical-current characteristics of YBa2Cu3O(7-x) grain boundaries.
