This patent describes an improvement in a drill string that extends downhole in a borehole for supporting a drill bit at a lower end thereof, there being a fluid passageway formed axially through the string by which drilling fluid is supplied to the bit. It comprises: an elongated drill collar for connection into the drill string and used downhole in a borehole for controlling hole deviation; and a plurality of longitudinal bowing chambers circumferentially extending about said axial passageway for bowing said collar in a selected direction away from the central axis thereof.
