Exosat observations of the Tycho supernova remnant

Journal Article · · Astrophys. J.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1086/166003· OSTI ID:6996121
The Tycho SNR spectrum in the energy range 1.5-10 keV as observed with the Exosat Gas Scintillation Proportional Counter and Medium Energy experiment is presented. The Fe K emission line is resolved and permits an investigation of the Fe abundance. The results are compared to X-ray emissivity calculations for SNRs in nonequilibrium ionization conditions. The 0.5-2.0 keV imaging data from the Exosat telescopes obtained with two different broadband filters are also presented. 30 references.
