Journal Article · · Pipeline and Gas Journal; (United States)
OSTI ID:6993277

This paper reports on the Transmed natural gas pipeline, crossing both land and sea, which provides a direct link with the reserves in North Africa and increases the amount of natural gas available for import into Italy. Between 1969 and 1972, the first feasibility studies leading up to the commencement of the project were carried out. The project was completed in 1981 and the pipeline came on stream in 1983. The Italian-Algerian company TMPC, with 50% SNAM capital and 50% Sonatrach capital, was set up under the ENI-Sonatrach agreement to build the underwater section of the Algeria-to-Italy gas pipeline in the Sicilian Channel.
