This book is an analysis of international developments in the steel market that examines principal trends in supply and demand as well as current production capacities and investment expenditure. It discusses prevailing trends in demand for and prices of iron- and steel-making raw materials. A review of national developments in more than 20 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Central and Latin America, and North and South America is included. Tables provide data on real crude-steel production and production calculated in ingot equivalents by regions in 1983 and 1984; GDP and industrial output in Western Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan; GDP and industrial output in the main market-economy industrialized countries, excluding Japan; output of the main types of metal products in Eastern European countries with centrally planned economies; foreign trade turnover of the USSR; and foreign trade in metal products by countries with centrally planned economies.
