Convection and mass transfer in the high-gradient magnetic separation of colloidal particles

The authors investigate the high-gradient magnetic separation of magnetohydrodynamic working fluids by magnetic separators and magnetic filters in a flow model depicting the convection and mass transfer aspects due to magnetodiffusion and Brownian diffusion of the colloid particles. The model is tested against actual experimental data for the separation behavior of magnetite particles suspended in kerosene or water.
