Field development with 3D seismic --a Williston basin case history

The Medicine Lake field survey demonstrates that 3D seismic data, as a result of its enhanced subsurface imaging and areal sampling, can assist field development by providing: an improved structural picture; recognition of stratigraphic variations; and detection of possible porosity zones. For fields of a similar structural complexity and size, a ''mini-3D,'' costing less than a fifth of a dry hole, is a viable field development tool.
