Birefringence compensation for polarization-independent directional coupler wavelength filters

The authors show how polarization-independent optical wavelength filters can be achieved using asymmetric directional couplers with birefringence compensation. Simulations demonstrate that excellent polarization behavior can be achieved with practical tolerances and without sacrificing filter bandwidth or insertion loss.
