PCB testing by immunoassay is gaining acceptance by environmental contractors throughout the country. Though proven as a valid quantitative methodology in other scientific circles, this technology has only recently been approve4 by the EPA as a valid field screening method for PCB. The D TECH{trademark} PCB immunoassay has demonstrated these attributes in recent field studies. The kit is field portable,a nd contains all the necessary reagents and components to complete 4 tests. Typically, a contaminated soil sample is extracted in methanol and tested in the 7 step assay. Results are realized in less than 30 minutes, and four or more analyses can be done simultaneously. The D TECH{trademark} immunoassay is broadly reactive to Aroclors, reacting equally to Aroclors 1248, 1254, 1260, and 1262, 2--3 fold less to Aroclors 1242, and 1268, and about 10 fold less to Aroclors 1016, 1221, and 1232. Fifteen separate chlorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were tested for interference at 1,000 ppm and none interfered.
