CASMO-4, a new version of the lattice physics code CASMO, was recently developed by Studsvik to address future fuel design considerations. Some of the new aspects introduced with CASMO-4, such as heterogeneity factors for homogenized regions and the new two-dimensional transport model HETRAP, make it more powerful for the lattice analysis in which strong heterogeneity or large thermal flux gradients are encountered. Some numerical tests for boiling water reactor (BWR) lattices were performed against Monte Carlo results, and advantages of the new model have been indicated. As a next stage, comparisons with experimental results are desirable. This paper presents the CASMO-4 benchmarking results for pin powers against critical experiments using high-concentration mixed-oxide (MOX) fuels in BWR lattice configurations, performed recently at the VENUS facility in CEN/SCK, Belgium.
