On the orientation dependence of the intermediate-temperature creep behavior of a monocrystalline nickel-base superalloy
- Univ. Erlangen-Nuernberg, Erlangen (Germany). Inst. fuer Werkstoffwissenschaften
Over the last few years monocrystalline [gamma][prime]-hardened nickel-base superalloys have been used increasingly as turbine blade material in some modern gas turbines. Since monocrystalline materials are highly anisotropic, a detailed understanding of the orientation dependence of the mechanical properties and especially of the creep behavior is necessary. Therefore, it should be taken into account that the anisotropic mechanical behavior is most pronounced in the temperature range of about 700--850 C. The purpose of the present work is to study in some detail the anisotropy of creep deformation of near [001] oriented single crystals of the second generation nickel-base superalloy CMSX-4 at 800 C under constant stress. Special attention was paid to the investigation of primary creep behavior.
