Saturation spectroscopy with resonance-ionization mass spectrometry detection was used to obtain Doppler-free spectra of the {sup 2}{ital D}{sup {circ}}{sub 3/2}{l arrow}{sup 2}{ital D}{sub 3/2} transition of lutetium at 22 125 cm{sup {minus}1} in unenriched, naturally occurring samples. Analysis of the spectra yielded the hyperfine coupling constants of {sup 175}Lu and {sup 176}Lu for this transition. Applications to isotopically selective photoionization and large-ratio isotopic analysis are discussed.
