This book describes the increasing use of wood fuels as an energy source for industrial plants in the Appalachian region. The availability, transport, economics, combustion, gasification, and environmental aspects of wood fuels are discussed. Fuel substitution and/or retrofitting by industrial plants are described in several case histories. In addition, state government programs and sources of information on wood energy are given. A list of suppliers of wood burning and associated equipment, wood brokers, consulting foresters, and industrial users of wood energy in Appalachia is included. Separate abstracts were prepared for most of the papers. (CKK)
