This reports provides a compilation of summaries of the research projects supported by the Office of Health and Environmental Research (OHER) during Fiscal Year 1988. The OHER, a component of the Office of Energy Research, is the health and environmental research arm of the US Department of Energy. The mission of the Office reflects a commitment to developing the beneficial uses of advanced energy sciences for the alleviation of human suffering, while at the same time assuring that any potentially adverse health and environmental impacts of energy technologies are fully understood. The program is broad in scope and diverse in character with substantial commitments to both applied and basic research. The research projects have been organized to reflect the major themes and focus of the OHER program, as outlined in the Contents.
