Special considerations in power system restoration

Journal Article · · IEEE Transactions on Power Systems (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers); (United States)
This paper is one of a series presented on behalf of the System Operations Subcommittee with the intent of focusing industry attention on power system restoration issues. Unconventional, somewhat unpredictable new uses of bulk power transmission systems, coming at a time when those systems are operating uncomfortably close to their design limits, are making systems more vulnerable to potential major disturbances, and resulting in renewed attention to the need for prompt and effective restoration following possible major system disturbances. This paper discusses a number of particular problems that require special attention in the development of system restoration plans.
