Problems of an arctic freeze send propane prices to new highs

This article discusses the propane fuel crisis which resulted from the unusually cold weather during the winter of 1989-1990. The author addresses the dramatic price increases, shipping problems, and the ramifications of accidents and strikes which occurred in the industry during this period. Recommendations to help meet future emergencies are presented. Response to the crisis by both consumers and industry personnel is discussed.
