Combined polarographic determination of vanadium and molybdenum in steels and alloys
The polarographic behavior of Mo(VI) and V(V) in a supporting electrolyte solution containing phosphate ions, citrate ions, and EDTA (pH 4-6) has been investigated. The depolarizers undergo irreversible reduction under the conditions studied, Mo(V) being reduced with the participation of one electron, and V being reduced with the participation of two electrons. A directly proportional dependence between the concentration of the elements and the value of the maximum current is maintained in the range from 1 x 10/sup -5/ to 1 x 10/sup -2/ M. A procedure for the determination of Mo and V when they are present together in iron-containing objects has been developed; the relative standard deviation is 0.02-0.03.
