Energy losses of a charged particle moving uniformly through a stack consisting of an arbitrary finite number of plates are considered. A general expression is obtained for total losses, which is studied for the case of a transparent plate. It is shown that the portion of total losses termed polarization losses is an independent quantity in each plate of the stack. Parametic Cerenkovsky radiation, which occurs in an infinite layered medium, is not generated as monochromatic radiation in a finite transparent stack of plates. It is also shown that in a transparent thin layer of material and in a stack of thin transparent plates losses occur in accordance with the Fermi density effect.
