As a Plant, Process, or Operating Engineer, ask yourself, What is the dollar and cents value of 1, 2, or 3 degrees colder water, or cooling added water flow at no increase in energy input? Energy is worth money. Before new O.E.M. equipment is considered, investigate the upgrading potential of your existing. Conversion of industrial cross-flow to modern counterflow is a proven procedure, more cost effective than adding additional new cells with the costs of concrete basin, piping, additional motor horsepower, needed, and less electric pumping head energy required. An independent consultant should be hired to evaluate the upgrading potential. An engineer from a major company usually looks at an inspection/consultation as merely a sales call to sell his company`s products. Do not neglect a profession inspection at stated intervals which could pay big dividends in preserving the investment in valuable equipment. The bottom line is colder water saves energy and makes money.
