An experimental search for a {ital p}-wave, strangeness {minus}1 dibaryon ({ital D}{sub {ital s}}) was undertaken at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron using, for the first time, the {sup 3}He ({ital K}{sup {minus}},{pi}{sup +}){ital D}{sub {ital s}n} reaction at 870 MeV/{ital c}. This dibaryon is predicted to be a spin singlet resonance lying below the {Sigma}{ital N} threshold. In the region between {Lambda}{ital N} and {Sigma}{ital N} thresholds there is significant {Lambda} production through two-step reactions and through virtual {Sigma} production with subsequent conversion to a {Lambda}. At an experimental sensitivity (statistical, at the 2{sigma} confidence level) of about 1.0 {mu}b/sr, we find no evidence for a dibaryon in a region between the {Lambda}-{ital N} and {Sigma}-{ital N} masses.
