Underground Nuclear Testing Program, Nevada Test Site: Final environmental assessment, FY 1977

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6971784
The purposes of this environmental assessment are to present a brief description of the underground nuclear testing program proposed for the Nevada Test Site during FY 1977 and to evaluate whether or not an environmental statement need be prepared. This assessment considers underground nuclear detonations of one megaton or less, along with the preparations necessary for these detonations, during fiscal year 1977. The testing activities considered will also include other continuing and intermittent activities, both nuclear and nonnuclear, which can best be conducted in a remote and controlled area. Results show that the activities proposed for the Nevada Test Site during FY 1977 are essentially of the same nature as those which have transpired before. Environmental effects of such activities are not significantly different from those which have been described in previous environmental statements. Because of this similarity, no new environmental statement is needed at this time. 8 refs.
