Heat transfer and kinetics of a metal hydride reactor. [LaNi/sub 4. 25/Al/sub 0. 75/]

A 3-inch diameter LaNi/sub 4.25/Al/sub 0.75/ reactor was studied for its effective heat transfer coefficient and reaction kinetics. The effective heat transfer coefficient is a strong function of hydrogen pressure in the reactor. The reaction rate is a function of the temperature, the hydrogen pressure and the hydrogen to metal ratio in the solid phase. An unreacted-core reaction model fits the reaction rate data very well. 5 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.
