Offshore loading systems. an alternative to pipelines
A discussion of several offshore loading concepts covers the single buoy mooring, the simplest and most widely used system, with the buoy simply anchored to the sea bed; other single buoy moorings which include storage capacity; the single anchor leg mooring (SALM) anchored to a fixed base on the sea floor through a pretensioned rigid leg structure containing the submarine riser; different SALM designs containing one or more swivels and universal joints; and the articulated loading platform of French design included in the initial production facilities at the Statfjord field on the Norwegian continental shelf, with design and fabrication to be approved by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), with Det Norske Veritas acting as quality assurance agency to NPD regarding design evaluation and survey of materials and fabrication.
