Global Warming: Is it real

Journal Article · · Forum for Applied Research and Public Policy (Knoxville, Tennessee); (USA)

Most climatologists do not yet proclaim the observed temperature records to have been caused beyond doubt by the greenhouse effect. The empirical test of model predictions against a century of observations is consistent to a rough factor of 2. This test is reinforced by accurate simulation by most climatic models of the seasonal cycle, diverse ancient paleoclimates, and the present distribution of climates on Earth. These verifications provide a strong circumstantial case that the modeling of global surface air-temperature sensitivity to greenhouse gases is valid. We know enough to pursue actions to slow down the rate of greenhouse gas buildup, and help solve other unrelated societal problems. It seems prudent to consider implementing those policies with multiple benefits. 14 refs.
