CrSi{sub 2} in (Mo, Cr)Si{sub 2} alloy
- Chalmers Univ. of Technology, Goeteborg (Sweden)
It has been reported that the Mo-Cr-Si system consists of MoSi{sub 2} (C11{sub b}, a = 0.3203 nm, c = 0.7855 nm) and CrSi{sub 2} (C40, a = 0.4428 nm, c = 0.6363 nm). The solubility of Cr in MoSi{sub 2} is limited to 3 at.%. In this experiment, the formation of CrSi{sub 2} in MoSi{sub 2} matrix was investigated using transmission electron microscopy. A CrSi{sub 2} phase can be formed in the (MoCr)Si{sub 2} system. The orientation relationship between CrSi{sub 2} and MoSi{sub 2} is [001]{sub CrSi{sub 2}} // [1{bar 1}0]{sub MoSi{sub 2}} and [100]{sub CrSi{sub 2}} // [110]{sub MoSi{sub 2}}, which indicates that CrSi{sub 2} nucleates on {l_brace}110{r_brace} planes of MoSi{sub 2} and grows along <110> axes of MoSi{sub 2}.
