In this paper, the authors consider the proofs of unitarity and renormalizability of (3 + 1)-dimensional chiral electrodynamics using a quantization previously proposed. The unitarity of the S matrix is shown by employing Cutkovsky rules and the BRST formalism. Renormalizability is considered in detail; it is shown that all the divergences can be absorbed in the fermion charge and the mass of the vector field. At least for this Abelian case, cancellation of anomalies by fermion content is not a necessary condition for the quantum consistency of the theory.
