Bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) plants fueled by wood waste and biomass residues are being installed at several projects in the Canadian pulp and paper industry. These projects herald the entry of fluidized bed technology into Canada's large and important resource product sector. Maryland-based Kvaerner Enviro-Power Inc. (KEI) is providing turnkey engineering, procurement, construction and start-up services for power plant projects in Alberta and Nova Scotia. As well, Pyropower Corp. of San Diego recently landed a boiler sale in Quebec. BFB technology has demonstrated fuel flexibility and low air emissions on dozens of units operating worldwide.
