The Fe-24Cr-4Al alloy exhibits serrated flow behavior at 400--600 C. Transmission electron microscopy reveals that both coplanar slip and dislocation pile-ups are observed in this alloy cyclically deformed at various total strain amplitudes. There is no strong interaction between Al and dislocations at room temperature and the microstructural response to fatigue of Fe-Cr-Al alloy at room temperature follows the same features as the ferritic Fe-Cr alloy, i.e. labyrinth and cell-like structures. However, the interaction between the solute Al and dislocations at high temperature limits the extent of cross-slip and hence the tendency for cell formation is suppressed.
