The effect of the twinning planes on the pinning of the Abrikosov vortices in type-II superconductors with the Ginzburg-Landau parameter {ital k}{much gt}1 is considered. The twinning-plane superconductivity is described in terms of a modified Ginzburg-Landau functional, in which the enhancement of superconducting properties near the twinning plane (TP) is taken into account through the introduction of an additional {delta}-function term. The interaction of a vortex filament with the twinning plane is calculated. An additional attractive force, which is similar to the one in the problem involving the Bean-Livingston surface barrier, is shown to have an effect on the vortex filament if the twinning plane is opaque to electrons. The results obtained by us can explain the anisotropy of vortex pinning which is observed in the periodic twinning structure in high-T{sub c} superconductors.
