Insertion of SnCl/sub 2/ into an Os-Os bond of Os/sub 3/(CO)/sub 11/(. mu. -CH/sub 2/) to give the planar cluster Os/sub 3/SnCl/sub 2/(CO)/sub 11/(. mu. -CH/sub 2/) with a pentacoordinate tin atom

Studies have revealed that the planar cluster compounds, Os/sub 3/SnCl/sub 2/(CO)/sub 11/(..mu..-CH/sub 2/), is formed by the insertion of SnCl/sub 2/ into the Os-Os bond when SnCl/sub 2/ reacts with Os/sub 3/(..mu..-Ch/sub 2/)(CO). The cluster compound was characterized spectroscopically and defined by x-ray diffraction studies. 13 references, 1 figure, 1 table.
